Are you ready to make an investment in your wellness? I’m excited to work with you to create an individualized plan that helps you achieve your wellness goals...not what others want for you, but what YOU want. I commit to navigate, motivate, and help you stay on your path to optimal wellness and we will have some good ole fun in the process.
What is wellness or health coaching?
I’m NOT going to get in your face and say, “drop and give me 50!” If that’s the coach you are looking for, I can refer you to someone else! If you are looking for any of the following, we will make good partners:
Partner in crime to help you identify your wellness vision, set realistic goals, and define a path to get there
Educator to arm you with information on health and wellness that will empower you to change
Champion throughout your journey who provides positive support and practical tips as you embark on lifestyle changes
Accountability ally to keep you on track with where you want to go and to help identify modifications along the way to keep things moving forward
Why use a functional medicine based approach?
Understanding the root cause of what’s preventing you from feeling and being your best self. Functional Medicine is an individualized, evidence-based approach that looks beyond resolving symptoms to understanding what lifestyle factors you can modify to improve your well-being. Doesn’t that sound exciting! As your coach, we will explore five factors that most commonly impact wellness and that you have the power to change. Really, you do! Those areas are:
Nutrition
Sleep and relaxation
Stress management
Movement
Relationships

Welcome, I’m Shelley I’m a cat-loving, nature-wandering, recipe-obsessed, entertaining maven wannabe who lives in the Washington, DC area. I’ve been helping organizations design and implement improvements for over 20 years. Over my career, I’ve learned that change is hard, even if it is necessary. I’ve discovered that with the right information, tools, plan, partner-in-crime to empower you, and willingness to experiment, adjusting how you do you is possible and sustainable. The best part is, you probably already have the answers, you just don’t know it yet. So I’m here as your Ally in Wellness who offers you the training of a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach combined with a little sarcasm to brighten your day. My journey I’ve always been interested in how food and the environment play a role in well-being. I find myself endlessly reading books, blogs, and articles on how these factors can impact your lifestyle. And using my curiosity as a reason to eat and experiment! So, take my inherent interest and throw in the year 2018. The year my mom was diagnosed in January and lost her brave battle to cancer in May. As soon as I snapped out of the shock of the diagnosis, I read everything I could about how food, the mind-body connection, spirit and relationships, and ways to modify your lifestyle that can heal. I would call her and say, I know you eat blueberries already, but EAT MORE and ditch that diet coke in favor of green tea while you are at it. Then, when I saw the “food” the hospital provided I almost lost my mind. Processed, sugar-laden, antioxidant lacking, inflammatory…the list goes on. I was and still am appalled. In summer 2018, enter my long-time practitioner who is trained in functional medicine. During one of our sessions, she said, you would be great at coaching. She knows my snarky attitude, so I chuckled. But she was serious, and I looked into it. The more I researched, the more I realized this was a perfect fit for me. I could combine my passion for the environment, nutrition, self-care, and a healthy lifestyle with my practical skills of creating strategies to improve. But instead of organizations, I now focus on people. As I think back on the past couple of years and how much has changed, I’m struck by feelings of gratitude and hope. I’m thankful for the strong relationship I had with my mom that taught me to be open, honest, true to myself, and to go after what you want. And, I know she would have been pretty pumped about what I’m up to these days…as long as I’d still make time to visit My Education
